The highly successful ‘Streetcage’ brand kicked off in Merseyside in 2005 after both Directors Matthew Shannon & David McDermott spent vast amounts of time in the U.S.A. It was our company that introduced the ‘Streetcage’ brand to areas across Merseyside with its highly successful football projects in 2005. Over the past 5 years we worked with a number of key organisations which included Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire Service, The Fire Support network and many more to help develop the concept of Street football to youths in Merseyside.

For the past 5 years we have worked with as many as 8000 young people and over 2000 adults to help reduce key issues such as Anti-social behaviour, improve Health & well being and give people an opportunity to participate in sport. After 5 years of helping develop and support other organisations to help provide projects, Streetcage Sports decided that we would become a ‘Community interest company’ and build our very own sporting empire across not only the Region but across the country through a franchise.

Streetcage Sports set up as a multi sports provider and employed co-ordinators and development officers for a range of sports, the biggest of which being Liverpool ex feather weight world champion Derry Matthews who will now front our Boxing Academy across the region. Each of the development officers will work on applying for grants, accessing funding and building partnerships within their area of sport.

Over the next 5 years Streetcage Sports will aim to be the key provider of Multi-sports for a range of providers and commissioners across the North West. Our programmes will be delivered in Schools, PCT’s, Youth clubs, Community centres, Young offenders institutes and many more to deliver a range of sports that not only reduce Anti-social behaviour issues and provide opportunities but also provide Health & well being opportunities.

Our biggest achievement to date is being rewarded £100,000 from Sport relief in January 2010, to set up Merseyside’s first Boxing & Fitness Academy. This programme will see us engage with over 1000 youths in the first 12 months and expand the project across the region in 2011. This programme will be co-ordinated and delivered by Boxing World Champion Derry Matthews.
