Schools

Streetcage Sports CIC now has a number of qualified Boxing Tutors to deliver Non contact Boxing Awards across Merseyside and Cheshire. Ex World Champion Derry Mathews and Level 3 ABA Coach Sean Trodden are fully trained to deliver all of the National Awards below including ASDAN course which are the equivalent of a grade B at G.C.S.E level.

Streetcage Sports CIC can now offer young people in your School or Community the opportunity to complete a number of accredited courses that can be used as merits towards the ASDAN course.

The Awards are broken down into 6 levels, however our Community programme concentrates on the first 3 programmes only. To see the remaining 3 levels, please click on the Sports/Boxing link.

Non Contact Boxing

1. Preliminary Award

“The Preliminary Award is for participants from the age of five years. The Award teaches the basics of amateur boxing and is designed as an introduction to boxing”

Introduction

Gains one credit towards ASDAN Boxing GCSE

The Preliminary Award is your first step to learning the art of Amateur Boxing. You will be taught your stance, guard, footwork, straight punches to head and body and how to defend yourself. The lesson will be delivered in a fun, safe and educational environment (including a GCSE qualification).

Assessment

Technique and Partner Work
You will be expected to show six demonstrations from the following: stance, guard, balance, torso movement, and basic footwork around the ring moving in all directions. You will be expected to show defence actions against straight lead to head and body.

Shadow Boxing

You will be assessed on basic footwork, jab, rear-hand and defence actions.

Pad Work
You will be required to do pad work for three 1 minute rounds with ½ minute rests working in pairs.

2. Standard Award

“The Standard Award is for participants who have successfully completed the Preliminary Award. It teaches the basics of amateur boxing and also gives an insight into the physical training needed to become and amateur boxer”

Introduction

The Standard Award will teach you to throw straight punches as a combination and also whilst on the move - forward, back, left and right.
You will also learn warm-up routines (which you will have to do yourself) and skipping - which is a great way of keeping fit and losing weight. You will also be asked 5 questions on the rules and your general knowledge of Amateur Boxing.
As in the Preliminary Award the lessons are all noncontact, so you can be sure you will be taught in a controlled way all the skills required to allow you to develop the confidence required to progress. Again, you will need to work hard and be focussed all the time so that you will be ready to demonstrate the correct techniques when you take the Standard Award Assessment.

You will be getting fit by now and taking part in a colour circuit that will enable you to progress to different levels as you get fitter.
